Gallery Profile

Ruth Bachofner Gallery opened its doors 30 years ago after Ruth had worked for a decade as a private dealer and art consultant. The gallery moved a couple of times before relocating to its current home at Bergamot Station Art Center in 1998.

The Gallery takes pride in a very active exhibition program; the installations change every 4 - 5 weeks. Generally, the exhibits feature two simultaneous one person shows. The gallery also presents a few group shows during each calendar year, including the massive, annual Holiday Group Show, which typically features smaller works from over 50 artists each winter.

The Gallery has a strong reputation for paintings by recognized as well as emerging artists from California, New York and Europe and is committed to high caliber contemporary art, with focus on abstraction. The inventory reflects the most important and timely in contemporary art and appeals to a wide spectrum of tastes and sensibilities.

Although the Gallery’s emphasis is on contemporary art, more traditional art can be included as part of a total art project, if desired. Since the Gallery maintains excellent relations with other galleries, work from many gallery sources can be obtained. Commissioned art pieces, such as oversized paintings or outdoor sculpture, can also be arranged.

Ruth Bachofner Gallery enjoys a reputation as a source of exceptional contemporary art, knowledge and the highest standards in all business practices.
